I sure hope Christmas doesn't sneak up on us!

(Do you think we have enough advent calendars? )
.

My childhood advent calendar: Carmen and Chloe do this one, taking a decoration for the calendar out of a pocket each day.

.

Chocolate advent calendars X four.

.

The best scripture advent calendar from the December 1985 Friend Magazine. I laminated it and we reuse it every year. Each day has a scripture from the Bible or Book of Mormon about prophecies of Jesus birth, or from the account of his birth in the New Testament. The kids take turns reading the daily scripture and finding the coordinating picture to stick in the calendar square.

.

And our activity advent calendar. Each day contains a paper with a family Christmas activity to do together that day. This was a great idea when I had two small children home with me all day every day. Now it is much more difficult to implement daily family fun with four children in school and other activities, but so worth it because it keeps us enjoying the whole Christmas season together.

Excuse me. I believe Mom promised ME that advent calender. Infact, I have gone over looking for it, and she said it must have gotten lost. Hello, Lost. How much am I going to have to pay you to get that back?

In other news, we are advent calender happy too. I laminated the scripture calender and put on stick on velcro on each square and picture. We used it today and it was a hit. Thanks for sending it to us. The kids (and Dirk!) are each working on a chocolate advent calender, and I have my activity advent calender, but that is just envelopes. I would love to have a beautiful one like yours. Where did you find it?

Merry Christmas!

Marie: Mom's got a bad memory, she brought the old advent calendar up here one Christmas and gave it to me. So I have three words for you: Little Black Sambo.
You can't have everything! :-)

I ordered our wood advent calendar from some catalog more than 10 years ago, sorry I don't remember where.

We have 7 girls in my family vying over everything. What wonderful advents. I love the activity idea. We did that last year.

Barb, I love advent calendars, too. I thought your post title was so apropos.

Hearing yours and Marie's banter made me smile, too.

Our advent calendars never survive our attic, so I am always in the lookout for one. I will have to print that 1985 one out. That is totally worth saving! I also need to go out and get some chocolate ones. We are already 2 days behind.

P.S. Your cards were so cool! What a great idea.

Your sister comments remind me of me and my sister. so funny!

I ADORE your calendars. We have the chocolate ones each year but we also have another that the girls love.

We are doing an activity calendar this year but not every day. So far, so great. The girls (and us!) are loving the time together.

I love to read your posts!

You've got quite the variety of advent calendars going, how fun for your family.

We just have cheap chocolate ones so far, because I'm either going to buy or make a great one some time. (Not this year though.)

Hey, I got your Christmas card yesterday and thought it was darling, thanks.

Uh oh Barb. You are busted! Making off with the family calendar!?

Love advent calendars too! We are putting out our decorations tonight for FHE and that means we'll get to open TWO today! Wee! I get Lego advents for my kids every year. They are so much fun. When I bought the chocolate ones I find myself sneaking a day or two early then acting all shocked, like the manufacturer mistakenly forgot to put chocolate in. It was time to get Lego so my kids could have a prayer of finding their treat!

Rats, my kids asked for chocolate advent calendars, and I forgot to buy them in my marathon shopping trip yesterday. Guess we'll have to start late and let them eat several chocolates at once. They'll hate that, I'm sure.

I love all your calendars. There are some real memories there, how cool!

Your argument with Marie is cracking me up.

I have one of those wooden Advent calendars from your parents, and I think it came from LL Bean, but it was years and years ago.

I love it that you have four of the chocolate kind. We only have one of these and so my little people are "waiting patiently" for their "day." (Or not so patiently as the case may be.)

I also love your activity advent calender...but mine would have to say things like "Everyone go to bed early" or "Everyone sing Christmas carols while you fold the socks." I feel like we can't squeeze one more thing into our days. I always regret this during the Christmas season.

I love your advent collection. I just bought a new wood one this year. My vision was a scripture & treat to fill each spot. It still stands empty. Ah...next year... I definitely want to look up that Friend one...perhaps I can use those scriptures for the one I have. FAntastic!

I love all these advent calendars! I guess this isn't the year to start new traditions with the baby so close and my motivation so low but next year it sounds like a great idea. I want to use the friend on, looks like a good one.

I too loved your Christmas card. So creative!

Wonderful! I especially loved the one from your childhood. We have the cheapie chocolate ones, and another one I got at Target a couple of years ago. One of these years I plan to make a cute one. Still looking...

Either your over the top or you at least have one for almost all your children to help do each day.Which makes them feel special. We have 2, one we don't even touch it is just up for deco. The other is in a book that my sister in law put together when we first started our family. It has a song usally a hymn, a scripture and a challenge. Last nights was to pray with out asking for any thing. We do this at night when we gather at the end of the day for family prayer, scriptures and just to catch up with each of the children.

Every year, I plan to make an Advent Calendar and every year I don't. I love all the ones you have. I am going to go find the Friend one. Looks great.

I too got your card. Yours was the first card to come this year. Thanks for thinking of me!

Hey, I got your card in the mail today! Christmas Good Mail! You did a very good job on them and they turned out so nicely. And I love that when I look at it I could tell who made it. They were very Barb.
