Temple Square

We started our road trip with kids who travelled so well all crammed into the truck together! And when we got to Idaho Falls they hit it off with their 3rd cousins who we stayed with like they were old friends. Unfortunately, that meant the kids all stayed up playing together till 1am. Tired isn't an ideal state on day 2 of a 16 day trip, but I wouldn't change it - I laughed so hard watching those 8 kids play Wii and horse around like they were old friends!

Now we're in Salt Lake City. Last night we went to the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and saw Joseph Smith The Prophet of the Restoration. Today we toured Temple Square and the Museum of Church History and Art. Ken and I haven't been to Salt Lake City to see the historic church sites since Ken entered the Missionary Training Centre and I was a young woman (not together) and the kids have never been here before.

Steven, Carmen, Jaclyn, Chloe

I loved the Christus statue when I came to see temple square as a child.

The children's exhibit in the Museum of Church History and Art was amazing. It was like walking through a real life Friend Magazine. Here Chloe is looking inside a Book of Mormon display.

Carmen holding to the iron rod in Lehi's dream.

Steven in front of the sculpture of the restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood.

When we toured The Assembly Hall we got to walk right up onto the podium. Jaclyn sat down for a moment and played the Steinway. When she was done the missionaries told her how beautiful the music was and what a nice spirit it brought into the building. Although, when we left they roped off the stairs leading to the stage.

Hey, we have kids old enough to take pictures, so here's Ken and I!

When we got hot and hungry we walked several blocks and couldn't find any open on Sunday restaurants in the vicinity of Temple Square except Starbucks which saved us from our quickly deteriorating moods. Hooray for Frappuccinos!

I'm so glad you're able to blog from the road! These were great pictures. Avery was looking over my shoulder and said, "Hey! That looks like Chloe." We didn't know the art museum had a kids' exhibit when we were there a few years ago -- too bad. We were laughing over your Assembly Hall incident. Good for Jaclyn! Hope you get some sleep tonight.

I went to temple square in grade 9 and met Keith and Kelly there. I haven't been since, but these pictures make me want to go.

My kids do the same thing with cousins. And really Wii is the best! I didn't know what I was missing until I played it recently. Call me a nerd.

Glad to hear the road trip is going well. Your skirt is darling. And that children's museum looks amazing. I will have to check that out next time I am in SL.

I met my father once at the tabernacle when I was 17 and he knew the organist, Alexander Schreiner, who was there playing that wonderful organ. He took me up to the front and introduced me. Brother Schreiner asked me if I would like to play the organ. The only thing I could think of to play was chopsticks. Can you believe that? Not one of my more stellar moments. Glad you are having fun. Great memories.

I've been playing catch-up, but it's definitely fun here. What a fantastic trip. I haven't been to Salt Lake in years. Such fun with older kids especially, I'm sure.

As for the post before this one, holy cow woman! I know I'm being redundant, but your creativity is truly boundless. Love the little travel logs you made. And I agree 100% with house cleaning before a trip. It makes a HUGE difference to come home to clean.

I love that we get this as you're going.

I want to take my kids to do all those things that I did when I was younger. But I still think they need to be a little older. I wouldn't want to yell at them not to tough in the tabernacle would I?

Love your photos! What is your mile total going to be after 16 days? Here's to long safe travel!

You are so cute! What a fun time you guys are having. Temple Square is such a beautiful place, we never took advantage of it when we were living there, we tend to go more now when we are just visiting. Where to next??? Have fun and look forward to your next post!

Your pictures looks beautiful, it looks like you guys had a great day at Temple Square. I've never taken my kids there, how lame is that? (I guess I took them to see the lights at Christmas time, but that's not the same thing.)
