It's not easy being green

My last NY post had to wait till Jaclyn got home from Montreal today, because she had the camera with the pictures I needed:
.

.
Our first day in NY we did a little window shopping in Saks. I love shopping expensive stores because it makes me appreciate Winners all the more.
.

.
The NARS cosmetics counter ladies invited Jaclyn and I for a *quick touch up*. Jaclyn thought that might infringe on her personal boundaries, so she declined. I knew it was a sales technique but I have no problem saying no-thank-you when the sales pitch shows up. The sales girl was a little shocked (peeved) that I didn't buy anything, especially considering my sallow (green) & dry skin that so desperately needs NARS make-up. Well, I was wearing green on purpose for Wicked later that night, and had I known my skin was green I wouldn't have let her fix it!
.
.
Do I look different in my NARS make-up?
.
Is it Wicked to let the make-up-counter-girl give you a makeover when you know from the start there is no way you're going to buy anything? Even when it is thrust upon you?
/.
Wasn't it very Good of Ken to give up his Wicked ticket when we decided to include Jaclyn in the NYC leg of our trip?
/
.

I loved the musical, and I'm curious about the book. Has anyone out there read Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West?

I have never heard of a "touch up" I think you looked fabulous before and after. You seem to take the greatest photos. And what a great dad for doing that!

I have that same green shirt!

I think you look great in the after picture, but I've never thought you looked green and dry before. And, at least she didn't turn you orange, which is why I would not have stopped for the complimentary touch up!

How much convincing did it take to get Ken to give up his Wicked ticket? Ha! :)

What a fun trip with J. Traveling as a youth with my parents made was such a lasting memory for me.

You look great after your "touch up", but you always look amazing anyway!!!

What a nice Dad to give up his ticket!

Blech, DON'T read the book. I've never seen the musical, but it gets such rave reviews I picked up the book trying to get in on the fun. I couldn't believe this is what people raved about. Since I have heard from a number of musical veterans that they are nothing alike and don't read the book. Wish I'd known, now I just have to pine away and live vicariously through people like you!

Your make up looks fresh and dewy and beautiful. The thrusting sales girls make me want to scream! At them!

DON'T READ THE BOOK!!!

I have yet to see the musical but I picked up the book to read on a trip thinking "the book is always better than the movie", right? {I even played full price for it at an airport terminal...grrrrr}

It was awful!

I didn't even make it through half of it. I wish I could say I was strong a put it down for the language/sexual content. But it just didn't even make any sense to me! I could not figure out how people were taking their children to see this play. Yikes! But then I was told that the play is just based on the general premise of the book. Whew!

Enough about that. I'm off my soap box...

Your makeover is lovely. But then again I think you look fabulous in every picture you post. I'm so jealous of your trip. It looks like so much fun. And your photography of the city is amazing.

Cute pictures Barb. Ken is a champ for giving up his ticket to Wicked.

I'm so jealous you got to see Wicked in NYC. I want to see that show!!! And I agree that you should definitely not read the book. It is terrible.

Amazing photos from your trip! Central Park looks lovely and the makeup before and after shots of you were both great. :)

It sounds like I dodged a bullet. I browsed a book store the day after we saw the musical and flipped through the book. I don't even remember what I noticed about it but I had my doubts and decided to at least delay that purchase. Thanks for steering me clear!

I'm dying to see that musical! The likelihood of that is about the same as my chances for going to NYC. At least I'm living vicariously through someone gorgeous.

Hahaha! Ken - I know that was a huge sacrifice for you to give up your ticket to Wicked! What a great father you are!

So good of Ken to give up his ticket. Maybe he can see it again sometime.

And not wicked of you for not buying any of that makeup.

You definately dodged a bullet with the book. I started reading it too a few years ago and couldn't understand what people were raving about. The book is NOT like the musical. Stick with the music.

I did like Confessions of an Ugly Step-Sister though..

I love that you're not about to be swayed by the NARS makeup counter people! I always do that and end up feeling so guilty that I'll buy something. (Especially if there's a free gift with purchase involved.)

I thought Wicked the musical was really fun and pretty up-beat. The book, on the other hand, is pretty dark and heavy. I read the book after seeing the musical because I wanted to fill in some blanks, but it's a whole different story. I didn't exactly hate the book, but I wouldn't recommend it either.

Hey...nice shirt! It's the perfect shade of green:)

I would love to see Wicked in New York. What a treat. I read the book first and thought it was o.k. It's definitely an adult version of the Wizard of Oz story with lots of satire, political posturing and heavy on philosphy. But definitely clever. And thoughtful, most of the time.

I was so pleasantly surprised by the musical. It takes all the cleverness and fun from the book and leaves out all the heavy, dark stuff. Plus, the music is incredible. Defying Gravity? Pure genius.

I'm so glad you had a great trip. It looks like a dream trip to NY.

I am so sad about all these negative book reviews! Ever since we've been home I keep meaning to get it from the library. Sigh.

I did love the production though. I thought it was brilliant. Dirk gave me the sound track for it and for the broadway Mary Poppins for my birthday, and I have listened to them a crazy number of times. The line that gets stuck in my head the most is, "Loathing. Un-a-dult-er-ated loathing." It's catchy.

I am loving all your pictures of New York and Montreal. You really do take fabulous pictures. What a fun trip. I already have tickets to see Wicked when it comes here in April, but I haven't heard good things about the book.

Wicked is my favorite play ever. I did read the book and I quite enjoyed it. It gets quite long in the middle, but not terrible. It is very political, which I found interesting, not heavy. Apparantly the Wizard of Oz when it came out, was also a political statement, the tin man, scarecrow and lion parodying 3 prominent politicians of the time, etc. so it wasn't that far off for Wicked to do more of the same. I would definately pick it up!
