He does like his suit,

He just doesn't like getting his picture taken.
/

/
Steven asked for a suit for his 12th birthday, which was Saturday. You can't make a surprise out of a present like that, which meant a little shopping for Steve. He doesn't much care for shopping, either, actually.
/

/
I found a dumb-butler when I was out thrift shopping, which I thought would be a good way to 'wrap' his present this year. Once the suit was chosen, bought, and altered I 'hid' it away in my closet till the big day. Or the day before the big day, depending on how you look at it.

On Sunday Steven was ordained a deacon in the Aaronic Priesthood. He, and a friend of his since they were very small, were ordained one after the other. Both boys were really happy about it - we sat behind the other family in Sacrament meeting and those two jumped up and nearly raced each other to the front to be presented by the Bishop.
/
The tradition in our ward is that all the Aaronic Priesthood meet together for a new ordination, which with 2 families present meant a full room. Another tradition is that after a new deacon is ordained he has to kiss his mother (and grandmothers and sisters and maybe aunts and female cousins) and bear his testimony. I liked both parts of this tradition.
/
Taking part in the ordination were Steven's Grandpas, Uncle Mark (x2), the young men's leaders and bishopric, and cousin Ross, who is a priest and therefore able to participate in the conferring of the Aaronic Priesthood and ordination of a deacon.
/
Ken's dad said Steven looked just like Ken on Sunday. He said 100%. I don't actually have a picture of Ken at 12 years old, but if I did it would probably look like this:

Ken doesn't always like his picture being taken either.

Aw! Handsome fella. What a great experience it is, watching your son hit that milestone. My teenage boy doesn't like getting his picture taken, either. I have lots of photos with him covering his face, or ducking behind someone else, or whipping his head around. Maybe it's in the genes.

It's so great that he wanted a suit for his 12th birthday! I love seeing the new deacons all decked out and handsome in their new suits like that.

What an exciting time, for everyone, I'm sure! I love the "possible photo" of Ken at the end. Very handsom.

It was a great day. It doesn't feel like he's grown up too quickly this time. It just felt like it was time for him to be "all grown up".

I looked at the pictures before I did the reading and though "Holy cow! That kid looks just like the one in the olden days!" Der. You got me!

That is a fine looking suit. I thought Steven was adorable when meeting him. A very bright, social, fun twelve year-old for sure. He'll look great in his suit.

Great suit, great tie. New deacons are great. I didn't think so when I was a Beehive, but I do now!

I think it is absolutely adorable that he asked for a suit for his birthday. How responsible. And I have to say you picked out a nice suit. Maybe it's a good thing that Beehives don't think Deacons are so great Michelle? He needs a few more years before he's worrying about that :).
