Happy 9th Birthday Carmen!

Because there was no way Carmen was waiting any later than 9am today to open her birthday presents!
.
Notice Steven under the blanket on the couch as Carmen opened her new Webkinz. He wanted to sleep longer on the last day of our school break.
.
A sign along the driveway up to our stable.

Carmen's birthday present from Ken and I was a bonus private riding lesson today before her usual group lesson. She was thrilled with the extra lesson, and I was thrilled to give an experience rather than a product, especially with my recent clean-out-the-house rampage!

The birthday fun continues this Friday at the wave pool. We used a photo from our summer vacation for the invitations :
.

Emma, ya wanna come?

Those cards are awesome. You have an indoor wave pool there. That sounds so fun.

Her note on the door is so funny. I totally understand not being able to wait to open presents and to have the big day start.

I like your idea of giving an experience rather than a product. Very cool.

Happy Birthday to my socially gifted neice! I thought about you all day yesterday. I hope you have a great time at the wave pool, and I love your note. I wish I would have thought to have a formal wake-up call for my family when I was growing up. Very clever. Love you!

What a great note from Carmen. It's a big deal to turn 9 and everyone needs to be there. Her invitations are adorable too.

Happy Birthday Carmen!

Happy Birthday to the birthday girl! (Maybe I can remember that she's exactly a year younger/older than 2 of mine?) What fun notes she left for all--I just love reading kid notes and seeing their drawings.

My favorite gifts are experiences...they are the only gifts I remember from my own childhood. I apply this principle liberally!

Hope Carmen had a fabulous birthday! Avery was just saying yesterday, "I can't believe Carmen is nine."

Love the party invites, the gift from you & Ken, and especially her note!

The answer is yes, of course....i just need to figure out how to get her there - i'm working on it. Hope you had a great day Carmen! Oh, by the way, i had ken's "itch-ay" song going thru my head all day monday. My girls asked how i knew how the song went, and i told them that you just need to know ken, and then you can hear it clear as a bell. too funny.

I can't imagine any of my kids wanting to sleep past 9:00... and I think it's wonderful to give the gift of experiences.

What a CUTE invitation idea! And I really like the idea of not giving "stuff" but something that will be more meaningful and last forever -- experience.
