The Ghost of SPT Past

This week's SPT challenge is to capture what we do when our children are "nestled all snug in thier beds". Here's the thing, I have big kids who sometimes stay up as late as I do, so once my kids are in bed I do a lot of this:

{July 10, 2007 SPT}

But if I don't go straight to bed - which I never do, it's just a fantasy - I don't tend to work on Christmas projects in the evening. I have the good fortune to be home nearly full time and I do my Christmas work during the day. Maybe your house is different than mine, but my kids don't seem to stay nestled all snug in their beds very well, and bad timing of getting out of bed for *just one thing* could ruin some Christmas surprises in the evening.

After the kids are tucked in you might find me blogging.

And on school nights you will find me packing backpacks and lunches, getting ready to *do it all over again* tomorrow. Sometimes the routine feels like I'm living in Groundhog Day.

Today my kids went to see Enchanted (at a movie theatre owned by a family in our school). To break up the routine I printed up this picture on 5x7 cardstock and threw it and some crayons in my little's lunch kits for them to find on the bus as they eat their lunch on the way to the movie.

Oh, man, I thought the kissing picture depicted a little romance in your life. I bet your kids loved the surprise.

Carmen thought the coloring picture in her lunch kit was totally lame! Can't win for trying.

awww, that was a nice surprise! maybe she liked it and just did not want to admit it? :)

I have older kids who go to bed the same time as me as well. Great surprise for the kiddos. I bet they gobbled it up!

How did you like Enchanted? I took Alexis to see it when it came out. SHE liked it. I was looking at some of your fun projects your family has been doing this month. I have been the total grinch. I have shopped or done any fun Christmas projects. I guess the 4 parties I will help with at school will have to suffice. Oh and btw, I'm so glad you included your beach picture in your Christmas cards. I love that picture!

Haha! I thought the Enchanted picture was what you did when the kids went to bed...I thought, "Wowee Barb!" This still has me giggling...and a little steamy myself.

I love that you do these things for your kids. I want to be just like you when I grow up.

My favorite thing about this SPT...your cheeks are rosy even when you're sleeping. I find that delightfully charming.

Sandi & April:
My husband's thoughts went the same direction when he read this post. Too funny! I hadn't thought about what else this picture might represent "after the kids are nestled all snug in their beds"! I am laughing hard, and for sure leaving this post as is.

Annalisa:
My girls all loved Enchanted, even Jaclyn who appreciated the poking fun at fairy tales. I thought it was lame, but hey, I'm not the target audience.
And how do you end up helping with 4 parties at school? If it were me it might make sense with 4 children in school.

April:
I think the rosy cheeks are just sun damage :-) At least that's what I was told once by someone doing a facial for me. She was recommending treatments to fix it and I was all, "No way! I like my cheeks pink, isn't that why we all wear blush?"

I have to admit my 1st thought was also about a little late night romance.

hey that photo is wonderful....too bad it did not last...lately i had to pull an all nighter to catch up...these kids and i cannot share the ottoman and or space...either they are not productive or I AM NOT....so how it goes....what a fun idea to print that on the way to the movie...i loved the movie, except it got silly in some areas....well as much as you would enjoy a kids movie

I totally had the same thoughts as Sandy and April about that last photo, and thought maybe Ken grew his hair out a bit. I thought, "wow, she's really getting comfortable on the blog!" So funny.

This was a great post. And, is that your new bedding behind you in the first picture? Love it!

OK, Barb--I'm laughing so hard because I had the SAME thought as everyone else about the last picture...I guess now we know what all of us ladies are really thinking about, eh? :)

Lelly's comment made me laugh the hardest!

I too had the same thought about that last picture. Too funny!

With my husband's kids both being boys, I imagine that I will never have occasion to see Enchanted. Cute idea with the picture though.

That cartoon drawing is smokin! I just read the comments above and I didn't make that connection, but I was impressed by Enchanted's level of passion in their cartoon. I hope I get to see it sometime! With four boys around the house, the chances are looking mighty slim.

I love when the littles are snug in their beds. It's when I read. Or snuggle with my guy.

Fun SPT!

What a fun thing to do! Was it a school field trip - I don't remember those when I was little. Our girls haven't gotten in bed by midnight the past couple of nights because of having to travel to different places - it's been so crazy. Even on a normal schedule -they are definately, never, snuggled into their beds at night, It's always a fight! Cute SPT!

I'm a little late coming to this post, but thought the same thing as everyone else with the kissing picture...so funny.

HA! I thought the same thing - fun though to print something off for your littles.
