Hating Soccer

(And I don't know how to remedy it.)

Chloe signed up for indoor soccer this fall, and unfortunately she is the only girl. She has tolerated 3 weeks of the boys only passing to her when the coach tells them to, but this week the unspeakable happenned: one of the boys had the nerve to call her 'Dude'.
,
She was horrified.

Tell her that "dude" is a compliment and that if she wants the boys to pass her the ball she has to show them she can play. She needs to be aggressive and have fun. Tell her me and one other girl played on the boys soccer team in high school and totally had to prove ourselves, but we did!

I would have guessed that it would be a good thing to be a 'dude'. Friends get called dude, and guys are dude, and guys get passed the ball, so maybe if she is a 'dude' they will pass the ball to her more.

I have a bad habit of calling my girls "dudes" -- I'll have to remember not to use it at Christmas!

I signed my girls up for an indoor sports class and they were greeted by 10 7-8 year-old screaming roudy boys. They had each other thought - so I assume it wasn't as bad - and no "dude" caling insued! She's a brave girl!

I agree - DUDE is a huge compliment...tell her to DUDE them back.

My daughter is also the only girl on her soccer team. Fortunately, she's only five, and she's much more interested in collecting leaves than actually getting anywhere near the ball, so we figure we have paid a steep price for fees, ball, and uniform that go mostly unused, and count it a lesson learned.

Dude is a good thing. Maybe next season specifically request a team with other girls? When they hit a certain age, it's a lot harder to play coed.

GO CHLOE GO!!!!
I know that girl can show them who is BOSS! She just needs to spend a little more time with them, and then she'll have a great solution. Of that I am sure!:-)

Isn't being called 'dude' a term of endearment? They're glad she's there now, she's part of the team. Still cute that it horrified her though.
