Picking up

.
An unremarkable, but fairly typical, look at my staircase on any given afternoon:
.

.
The theory is that when the owners of these things get home from school they will take what belongs to them upstairs and put said items away.

Barb, you come up with the best everyday shots to document your family's life. What a great sight to see.

Theory only works 33% of the time in our home. I am the worst of course.

I'm so happy to see this glimpse into your life! We don't have stairs to pile things on, but that doesn't mean we don't have all kinds of items waiting to be put away. Aargh!

So, does it work?

Only along with the ever present nagging from mom.

It never ceases to amaze me how many times an 'owner' can pass their own belongings within 4 inches, and STILL not pick them up and put them away! It's the same system i use here, but the kids need to be reminded EVERY time about how the system works.

Love this! I do this too!

You are awesome.

I guess I need some handy stairs! :)

I agree, it is amazing how people can actually step over a pile of their own things and not think twice about it.

(I guess it is easy to get used to your own messes sometimes!)

Yes! My stairs look quite similar (minus the dolls, plus a few action figures). I'm glad to be in good company.

Our floor plan doesn't allow for that method, but my mom used to always do that!

What a relief! I've never so much as seen a crumb on your floor - this is a much more obtainable standard. :)

(Happy Birthday to Carmen, too!!)

Amen to Natalie's comment!

I used to employ this system, with frustrating results. Our new house is all one level, so I'm not quite sure what to do with all the little things scattered about now.

Kelly & Natalie, you both live too far away from me to know what my house is REALLY like. Whenever you come it is a special occasion!

I create piles for my children to clean up at the top of the stairs since 2 of them have rooms in the basement. I really don't like it when they walk in the door and dump all their things right where we walk.

Glad I have caught up with you.

This is such a familiar sight! I am going to copy this picture for my self!
