Longest day of the year

We love our long summer days here in the GWN (great white north). Today we had dawn at 4:34 am and sunrise at 5:21 am. Our sunset will be at 9:55 pm and dusk not till 10:42 pm!
My kids are asking me if they can stay up till the daylight's gone as a way to celebrate the first day of summer. Ha! I told them sorry, I didn't wake them up at 4:34, and we're still in school, so they can't stay up till 10:42. Popsicles for an after school snack were about as close as we got to a first day of summer celebration around here.

That's cool, the first day of summer. We've been feeling summer here since February!

I can't wrap my brain around the kids still being in school. So much good and bad about the thought!

I think you really should have gotten them up at 4 to experience the true fun of summer. So funny!

Marie: you are a hoser.
Kelly A: I have very mixed feelings about school ending next week. I'll be glad not to be packing 4 lunches before I go to bed, however, I will miss my independence.
Kelly: I am considering it for next year. Maybe follow Jill and look for an early morning breakfast place. Sadly for me, as it turned out the kids were all awake still pretty close to dusk.

Good luck this summer! Any fun outings or vacations planned?

We don't have much seasons in Texas, since we are pretty warm most of the year. I had no idea the sun would come up that early and go down that late anywhere but Alaska!

Good luck with school being out!

Holy Crap, that's a seriously long day. Do you get summer fever and become frantically productive until you drop from exhaustion and lack of sleep? (Did you ever see that episode of Northern Exposure, so funny?) It gets dark here around 9:30 and that seems late to me.

During the summer I would love to spend longer, cooler days closer to the top of the world. It's when winter approaches that I'd like to be a bird and pack my bags for the equator.

That is one long day. We don't get those hear. I don't mind now though with kids who don't think it is bedtime until it is dark.

It's SO hard to go to sleep when it's still light out & you're a child ;) It's all mental I think.

I'm loving the long days, but ours definitely aren't that long. Summer is a lifestyle all its own, I suppose. My littles are quite little, but they're even managing to push back bedtime considerably.
